Specific Foods in the Mediterranean Diet Increase Longevity

While research continues to show the hazards of eating a Western Diet and the development of many chronic illnesses, a group of scientists wanted to know if there were any specific foods in the Mediterranean Diet that could explain the low incidence of heart disease found among those who follow this dietary pattern.
A Harvard study, led by Dimitrios Trichopoulos, followed 23,000 Greek men and women for 8.5 years and scored their diet and lifestyle on a scale from 0-10 based on how closely they followed the Mediterranean diet.
His team found that eating lots of fruits and veggies, olive oil, legumes, pulses (seeds), nuts and keeping alcohol and meat consumption low increased longevity. The most important aspect of the Mediterranean Diet turned out to be eating lots of vegetables and eating little meat and drinking little alcohol. Other elements of this diet, namely fish, seafood, cereal grain and less dairy products are healthy but didn’t seem to affect length of life as much. They also discovered the combination of olive oil and vegetables, as in stir-fry, were particularly effective.
What is becoming increasingly clear about the Western diet is the deadly combination of eating meals high in fats and high in carbohydrates. The classic example being a hamburger and French fries. This type of Western food causes fat to be stored around the abdomen, which is associated with insulin resistance, diabetes and heart disease.

The third question is not clear. I don't understand the question.

I think that it's misspelled. It's usually spelled with a "K" as in Ketchup. I've also seen it spelled Catsup. The question goes to the paragraph in the text where it mentions that the example of the western diet is hamburger and french fries. Both are commonly assosiated with Ketchup (misspellled as catch up) in question 3.

First time I have ever read an article at Kersh. While I couldn't agree more that the quiz question is poorly written, it only goes to follow that whoever put this article together, couldn't even get through the first sentence without making a grammar error " While research continues to show the hazards of eating a the Western Diet and the development of many chronic illnesses"...Very disappointing to see a professional organization put out content like this. I hope follow-up articles really contribute something to nutrition education which is what I had hoped this was all about.

I think the third question is asking if you continue to eat the Western diet, will those bad habits catch up with you and negatively impact your health . . . .

I just put 3 for both questions 1 and 2.
