1. Take a look around the office or offices and determine if the employees are living a healthy lifestyle. If you see a lot of junk food, overweight, or stressed individuals, chances are that your organization could benefit greatly from starting a health and wellness program. Other sure signs include sedentary workers and vending machines with sweets or carbonated beverages. Conversely, if your organization already has a walking program, employees are wearing some type of pedometer, or has made time for exercise at or nearby the office, your company may already be on track or just need a little wellness boost.

2. Ask the employees of your organization what they think about the current health of their company. The questionnaire can be short and to the point with simple questions about diet, exercise, yearly physicals, and perception of the overall organization. It can also be beneficial to leave room for employees to leave open-ended commentary regarding their perception of health within the company.

3. If your company decides to implement a health and wellness program, try beginning with a health fair. Health fairs can include biometric testing, health risk assessments, key note speakers, health booths, and even videos from executives within the company supporting the program. Employee health testimonials reinforcing company initiatives can add to employee morale and provide a boost to health and wellness program participation.

4. Try offering an incentive such as cash-back or prizes to employees for participating in the program. Employers should never expect that participation will be high without offering positive reinforcement through cash or other incentives to employees for participating in the program.
