Health Stations

Health stations are a powerful way to measure and monitor employee blood pressure and weight as well as stress levels and caloric expenditure. The term health station is also referred to as health kiosk, blood pressure machine, and even health machine.

Why are more and more companies choosing to add health stations to their wellness program employee benefits offering? Several years ago, many corporate organizations were happy with “soft” wellness offerings such as health promotion pieces and health risk assessment questionnaires. The trend that we are seeing now in the corporate health space is that companies are wanting wellness program interventions that really do make a difference and provide measurable results back to employees.

Blood pressure kiosks and health stations made their major debut in pharmacies across the United States and Canada with Vita-Stat blood pressure machines in the late 1970s. These machines were simple and would show valuable feedback such as diastolic and systolic blood pressure results. Over time, the company Vita-Stat had a series of mergers and acquisitions eventually had two major off-spring companies that are now known as LifeClinic and Computerized-Screening. LifeClinic holds the majority of the pharmaceutical market with over 25,000 blood pressure kiosks in CVS, Wal-mart, and most other large pharmacy chains. Computerized-Screening still has a large foothold in California and Nevada with pharmacies, but has focused its efforts on corporate and government entities with over 5,000 health machines in the market.

Europe also has a large number of health stations, but most of the blood pressure machines are still a pay-per-usage device and are stand-up machines that measure blood pressure from the forearm. Some critics of health stations in the United States and Canada claim that the European health stations are more aesthetically pleasing as compared to the ones in North America. Regardless, health stations are becoming the industry standard in pharmacies and now in corporations for measuring and monitoring vital health statics.

At Kersh Risk Management, we believe that health stations will be the platform for communicating health information for employees. Our health station software runs on a variety of health station platforms including Computerized-Screening, LifeClinic, and many other lesser-known machines in Europe and elsewhere in the world. While Kersh Risk Management is not a health station manufacturer, we have developed a unique system with patents pending making us what we have found to be the world’s first 100% online health station. All of our software is run from a server-side application that updates content and health statistics directly to our HIPAA compliant web-servers.

From our health stations, employee members can measure blood pressure, weight, stress levels, upload KAM device information, blood glucose values, watch health video content, view incentive points, interact with friends via the web, take pictures, and much more! It is all very fun and easy to use.

Over the next 5 years, there will be a major shift in the industry wherein health stations will become the gold standard for wellness program offerings, especially as prices continue to decrease, making various health kiosk models less expensive for corporations. Kersh Risk Management is ahead of the pack and has distribution for health stations around the globe.
