Wellness Company
Wellness company selection can sometimes be an arduous task. Locating a wellness company can be a pain as it is not always easy to find wellness companies, and some of the best wellness companies in the marketplace do not market themselves well enough to gain enough visibility. Most companies choose to work with their benefits broker in order to find a wellness program that integrates easily and seamlessly within their current benefits package with the least amount of economic overhead. After all, the primary reason that your business is looking at a partnering with a wellness company is to reduce health care costs, right?
Exactly. So, what are some things to look for in a wellness company? Here are some top considerations to think about when selecting a wellness company:
1. What is the price per employee per year?
2. How easily will their products and services integrate into the benefits package?
3. How will employees view this new benefits offering?
4. Where is the real meat in the program? Is it just fluff or will this program make a difference?
5. What are the account managers like?
6. Has your company designated a wellness coordinator or human resources person to work with the account manager?
7. When should you expect to see cost savings?
8. What kind of an analysis can the wellness company perform on your population to ensure that the services that have been selected are the right ones for your company?
9. Does your benefits broker have buy-in on the program?
10. Will the executives within your company support the program if implemented?
Starting a wellness program for the first time can be a bit of a shell shock for employers and employees. Sometimes a company is ready to change but did not realize all that it would take to make the necessary changes. For instance, most successful wellness programs require some type of
health risk appraisal
and
biometric testing
to be performed each year. Some corporations may need to send out additional promotional and educational pieces via email or posters to help employees understand why health risk appraisals and biometric testing are so crucial in order to establish a baseline for risk assessment and establish individual and company goals to improve the overall health of the organization.
Without measuring, it is difficult to monitor the progress of any goal that has been set. The same is true with wellness programs. For this very reason, many wellness companies have been moving increasingly toward measurement-based health strategies. What this means is that metrics must be in place for all wellness interventions that are a part of any wellness program. A good example is the use of pedometers or other accelerometer-based activity monitors that can upload steps, calories, and other activity measurements to a web-based health platform. By doing this, it becomes easier to participants and employers on an aggregate level to understand where their company stands on fighting obesity and sedentary lifestyles.
Lifestyle modifiable risk factors are one of the best targets for improving the health within your company. By working with a seasoned wellness consultant, you can build the program that your company needs in order to achieve improved health. It can be a win-win for employees, employers,
benefits brokers
, insurance carriers, and nations as a whole with wellness program implementation.
