emWave® technology was developed and pioneered by HeartMath®, a company committed to decreasing stress and improving the emotional health of individuals and companies in the United States, Canada, and around the globe.

How does the emWave® work? The emWave® uses a pulse oximeter to measure the heart rate variability (HRV) of the user in order to determine stress levels. Heart rate variability refers to the beat to beat alterations in the heart. It has also been linked closely with the ability to predict heart attack survival as well as linking emotions such as anxiety, hostility, panic, and stress. Heart rate variability can also be used as a primary indicator for hypertension, hemorrhagic shock, and septic shock.

By measuring changing in beat to beat variability (or the velocity of change of the heart rate), researchers at HeartMath® have been able to craft a unique and powerful technology that can accurately record changes in heart rate variability, the primary indicator of stress within the body.

The emWave® has been developed for use by individuals, healthcare groups, and corporate wellness. Individuals can utilize the emWave® through the emWave® PC, emWave® PSR, Emotion Visualize Pro, mp3 audio programs, books, and e-books. The emWave® PC was developed for use on personal computers at home or at work. The emWave® PC includes a patented Heart Rhythm Monitor (pulse oximeter), ear sensor, Coherence Coach, three interactive games, an Emotion Visualizer, and a free telephonic orientation class.

The emWave® PSR is similar to the emWave® PC but differs in that it is a personal stress reliever, hand-held, is portable, and does not currently connect to a computer. This product was the winner of The American Institute of Stress’ Award for Distinction and Innovation in 2008. It also won the 2009 People’s Choice Competition for the Last Gadget Standing at the Consumer Electronic Show. This unique product can be used any time and any place to help relieve stress and achieve maximum coherence. Additional mp3 audio programs, books, e-books, and the Emotion Visualizer Pro are available to help individuals learn more about the science behind HeartMath® and combat day to day stressors.
