emWave® Stress System Introductory Video

What exactly is the emWave® Stress System? Take a few moments to watch this Introductory Video, and learn how you can use emWave® technology to combat stressful situations. This same video is also available for members using the emWave® Stress System via their company’s Health Station.

emWave® Stress System

The emWave® System is a part of the “Measure” section on your Health Station. After logging in and taking your Blood Pressure and Weight as usual, the emWave® System module will automatically begin. The first part of the emWave® System is a brief introductory video. In this video, Bruce Cryer, President and CEO of Heart Math, introduces the concepts of Coherence and Heart Rate Variability (HRV). He also explains to members what they will experience on the Health Station during the emWave® System module. This introductory video is played automatically the first time that members access the emWave® System. It is also accessible for viewing later by clicking on the “Watch Intro Video” button.

Stress Inventory Survey

After watching the introductory video, members will automatically be taken to the Stress Inventory Survey page. This page has a list of events such as “Divorce”, “Death of a close family member”, and “Marriage” that members can click if they have experienced that stressor within the past year. After clicking all of the appropriate events, members are given a statistically validated score, showing what their susceptibility to stress induced illness is.

Stress Test

After members have watched the initial introductory video and taken the Stress Inventory Survey, they will automatically be taken to the emWave® Stress Test Page. This page will be the first page that comes up from now on once a user has watched the video and taken the survey. To begin taking the emWave® Stress Test, members simply clip the emWave® sensor to their ear and press “Start”.

Personal Stress Score

After the test has been completed, members are presented with their personal Stress Score. The Stress Score is a number between 0 and 100 that represents how well they were able to get their body into a state of High Coherence within the given time period. As members improve their ability to reach High Coherence, they have the option of changing the Challenge Level associated with the test. Three Challenge Levels are available, including normal, medium, and high. The higher the Challenge Level, the more members must focus on positive emotions and the power of thought in order to fine tune their abilities to reach High Coherence. Lower Challenge Levels are easier to achieve by breathing alone, but higher Challenge Levels require the use of full mental concentration and focus.

Stress Calibration Process

Once the test has begun, a Breath Pacer will appear as well as the words “Calibrating…”. The calibration process takes 20-30 seconds. Calibration is necessary in order to synchronize the emWave® device with your body. Upon finishing calibration, the emWave® Stress Test will begin, which lasts 1 minute and 40 seconds (100 seconds).

Low Coherence

Every 5 seconds, a light will appear on the screen that is colored red, blue, or green. If the light is red, the member is in the Low Coherence zone.

Medium Coherence

As members improve their ability to control their breathing by following the Breath Pacer, the light will change from red to blue. Blue indicates that the member is now in the Medium Coherence zone, which is a step above the red Low Coherence zone.

High Coherence

The goal during the emWave® Stress Test is to reach and maintain the green or High Coherence zone. This means that the member’s HRV is at a steady pace which is ideal for maintaining low stress levels. Once a member has mastered this level by using the Breath Pacer and focusing on positive thoughts, he or she can quickly and easily apply these same skills to real life situations in order to combat stressors. Members can literally change the biometric beating of their hearts by learning techniques that put their bodies in a state of High Coherence.
